WOMEN'S SOCCER: Lobos end the season on a high note with 3-1 win

It was senior day for the Lobo women's soccer team as Sarayi Serrano, Mia Leal, Daniela Ibarra, Geraldine Rubio, Allison Cohen, Yissel Olivares and Angelina Escobar were all honored.

Sul Ross State ended the 2023 season with a bang by defeating LeTourneau University, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Lobo Soccer Field.

>> HOW IT HAPPENED:

LeTourneau gained the early 1-0 lead in the first half after a goal from Chanel Kemball-Cook in the 19th minute.

The Lobos were threatening as Serrano took a shot that was blocked. Olivares then picked up the rebound right in front of the goal to tie up the game during the 26th minute.

In the 48th minute, Sul Ross State went ahead 2-1 when Toni Sanchez fired in a goal that came off a throw in by Karina Gallegos.

Olivares scored the final goal two minutes later with an assist from Cohen.

>> POSTGAME INTERVIEW:

"It's been a rough season. So, obviously ending it with a win is just really great for the whole team. We were at the bottom. It just cheers us up. It helps us be positive at all times, no matter how hard it is. We finished with a win, so it's good for us." — Olivares on the win

"Honestly it felt great being able to score not one but two goals. I was hoping to do the hat trick, but it didn't happen. We worked hard. That's all I really care about for this team." — Olivares on scoring two goals

"We talk about falling forward in moments that we need to fall forward into. We had a really rough season. There was a bunch of injuries and obstacles. As far as today, the team came together and they sent the seniors out with a bang. A little special note to these seniors. They were a part of that first class that started with me. There the roots and the foundation of what is Sul Ross women's soccer. I'm happy. It's earned, not given. This was definitely earned today." — Head coach John Dominguez on the win
