MARSHALL, Texas — It was another strong start for the Sul Ross State football team, unfortunately it couldn't close things out in the second half.
On Saturday afternoon, the Lobos fell to the East Texas Baptist University Tigers, 24-10, at Ornelas Stadium.
>> HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Tigers used a 10-play drive that resulted in a 25-yard field goal with 4:31 in the first quarter.
Sul Ross State was able to get three points on a 20-yard field goal by
Carlos Arreola just as time expired in the opening quarter.
To get the field goal, the Lobos had nine plays for 54 yards.
Andrew Martinez had a 34-yard rush to get the Lobos to the Tigers' one-yard line.
The Lobos tied up the score at 10-all on a 98-yard kickoff return by
Bobby Williams with 4:35 in the third quarter.
East Texas Baptist went on to score 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to notch the win.
The Lobo defense had a solid performance.
Sul Ross State's defense tallied six sacks and eight tackles for loss.
Alec Garcia grabbed an interception during the second quarter.
