Suffering an overtime loss to the University of Texas at Dallas earlier this week left a bitter taste in the mouth of the Sul Ross State women's basketball team.
On Saturday afternoon, the Lobos came together and picked up the 79-61 victory over the University of the Ozarks Eagles at the Pete P. Gallego Center.
Sul Ross earned the sweep of the Eagles after defeating them by 36 points back on Dec. 1.
In the latest American Southwest Conference standings, the Lobos remain tied for fourth place alongside East Texas Baptist.
"We shot the ball a little better, but still we missed several layups," said Sul Ross head coach E.J. Lee Smith. "At times, our players played together and it seemed like the biggest problem tonight was we didn't communicate defensively. We cannot look down on anybody."
The Lobos began the game on a 5-0 run that was fueled by a three-pointer by
Brianna Martin.
Vania Hampton landed a layup and then Martin knocked down two free throws to increase the Lobo lead to eight.
With 2:28 left in the opening quarter, the Ozarks cut the deficit down to two with a three-pointer.
Sul Ross went ahead by four when
Victoria Aguayo made a layup. The Eagles then went 1 for 2 from the free throw line to close out the first quarter trailing by three.
To start the second quarter, the Ozarks trailed by one.

Kayley Diaz. Martin then increased the run to 6-0 by making a layup.

"We knew we had to get this dub and that's what we did. We came out here and started shooting," Martin said. "We got to keep our mind on winning. When we start getting too cocky then we don't play as a team."
Smith added: "When we play together we're an unbelievable team. Everything is there, we just need to play smarter."
