RICHARDSON, Texas - Head coach
Troy Canaba picked up win 100 in his softball career at Sul Ross after a 5-1 triumph over UT Dallas to take the series.
"I'm so proud of this team," said head coach
Troy Canaba. "Everyone contributed and played together. These were some great wins on the road."
In his seventh season, Canaba notched win 100 in his career as head coach of the program.
Sully trailed 1-0 after the Comets plated a run in the bottom of the second.
It remained 1-0 until the top of the fifth. With one out,
Heather Rios doubled before
Veronica Rodriguez singled.
Taryn Griner then pinch-hit for
Raquelle Bernal and sent a three-run home run to left field for a 3-1 lead.
That's all the support starter
Jodie Vaughn needed. The righty pitched five shutout innings after surrendering the lone run in the second. The offense gave her a pair of insurance runs in the seventh to help cement the 5-1 win.
Vaughn surrendered just two hits, one earned run, and struck out seven.
Rios and
Camryn Hardin both finished with a game-high two hits.
Griner's three runs batted in were also a game-best.
The Lobos improve to 14-14 on the season and 7-11 in conference. UT Dallas dips to 17-11 and 9-9.
Sully will next host Howard Payne for a doubleheader on Friday, April 8 at Lobo Field.
