ALPINE, Texas - Women's hoops played Mary Hardin-Baylor to a tie through three quarters but ultimately fell 76-66 on Saturday.
This marked the final home game of the regular season and was also senior day.
The Lobos honored
Cassie Hogan,
Vania Hampton,
Keona Loftis and
Alyssa Ramlochan.
First Quarter
Both sides held slim advantages early. It was the Lobos that first broke out to a lead of more than two with a 7-0 run by
Vania Hampton. She started with a triple before later adding a pair of free throws and then a layup for a 12-6 lead. Sully's largest lead came at 16-8 on a
Marley Rokas layup. UMHB then got it to three before Hampton sank another three.
Teresa Quintana got it to seven late but a Crusader layup made it 22-17 Lobos heading to the second.
Second Quarter
The Crusaders opened the second with the first eight to take a 25-22 lead. Sully twice cut it to one, the last coming on a layup by
Alyssa Ramlochan to make the score 27-26. That was the last bucket of the first half that saw just 14 combined points.
Third Quarter
UMHB continued to hold the lead, eventually upping it to as many as seven midway through the third. Now down 46-40, Hampton hit another three before
Cassie Hogan sank a pair of free throws. Quintana later stepped to the line with 17 seconds left and hit one of two free throws for a 46-46 tie heading to the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
The first five were scored by UMHB before
Alexis Carmosino sank a three-pointer to get it back to three. The Crusaders then answered with the next seven to lead by 10 nearing halfway through the fourth. Rokas was later fouled on a successful jumper with 5:34 left and hit the resulting free throw to make it a 58-51 game. Down 12, Carmosino got it back to nine with a triple, but the Lobos were unable to get any closer in a 76-66 loss.
Stats
Carmosino and Hampton both had a game-high 16 points. Hampton added eight rebounds and Carmosino had five.
Hogan finished with 15 points and six rebounds.
Ramlochan had a game-high nine rebounds.
The Lobos fall to 13-10 and 9-9 in the ASC. UMHB moves to 20-2 and 17-0.
Sully next travels to Abilene to take on Hardin-Simmons on Thursday, February 17.
