WOMEN'S SOCCER: Concordia eliminates Sul Ross, 3-0, in ASC quarterfinals

Lobos tally 16 shots in the contest

ROUND ROCK — Every team has its setbacks.

The most important thing is rising back up and continuing to move forward.

Late in the season, the Sul Ross State women's soccer program continued to improve and fall forward each week.

The hard work obtained the Lobos a spot in the American Southwest Conference tournament as the sixth and final seed.

In the program's young history, Sul Ross has qualified for the conference tournament five times prior to the 2022 season. The Lobos went four seasons in a row from 2016-2019.

Sul Ross made its last trip during the condensed spring season of 2021.

The Lobos took on the third-seeded Concordia Tornados, which have made the conference tournament 12 of the last 13 seasons.

On Tuesday night, the Tornados scored quick and early to defeat Sul Ross, 3-0, in the quarterfinals at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.

Kallie Krenz got the Tornados on the board in the ninth minute off an assist by Patricia Heckendom.

Concordia got another goal during the 18th minute from Kaley Kaspar as Heckendom tallied her second assist of the half.

During the 69th minute of the second half, Emma Visser extended Concordia's lead to 3-0 with an assist tallied by Alycia Buenaventura.

The Lobos had 16 shots with 10 coming at the goal. Aylin Pereyra led the team with eight shots, six coming at the mark.

Nuvia Guillen tallied three shots and two shots on goal while Joanna Estrada had two shots. Deserie Herrera, Yissel Olivares and Judith Macias each finished with one shot.

Goalkeeper Alitzel Ybarra had six saves on the defensive side.

Concordia had 20 shots while it also finished with 10 shots on goal.

The Lobos have a bright future under head coach John Dominguez, who turned a program around after winning two games last season and only having 10 players.
