CLINTON, Mississippi - Softball took #8 East Texas Baptist to extras but ultimately fell 4-3 in eight innings on Thursday night in the second round of the ASC Tournament.
Veronica Rodriguez began scoring for the Lobos with an RBI single in the top of the second that brought in
Nadia Valverde.
Halie Guillen then added a sacrifice fly to plate
Payslee Sims to give the Lobos a 2-0 advantage.
In the fourth inning, Guillen continued to be a thorn in the side of ETBU as she cashed in a single to bring home Valverde to extend the lead to 3-0.
The Tigers managed to get two runs back in the bottom of the fourth with a home run for a 3-2 score. ETBU went on to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single for a 3-3 game.
It remained tied through the seventh and went to extra innings with a 3-3 score before the Tigers brought in the winning run on an error for a 4-3 win over the Lobos.
Jodie Vaughn got the start for the second straight game and went 4.2 innings with three strikeouts.
Miranda Martinez went the remaining 2.2 innings with an unearned run and a strikeout.
Valverde and
Veronica Rodriguez combined for a game-high two hits each with Valverde tying a game-best two runs scored.
2021 ties the 2019 season as the most successful in program history with each team advancing to the second round of the conference tournament.
Sul Ross finishes their season at 13-13.
