AUSTIN, Texas -
Teresa Quintana led all scorers with a career-high 27 points in a 73-64 win over Concordia on Saturday afternoon.
The sophomore shot 9-for-14 from the field and 6-for-9 from beyond the arc in a performance that also had four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
It was the Tornados that opened the game with the first six through the first two minutes for a 6-0 lead.
Quintana got the Lobos on the board with a jumper, but CTX answered with a pair of free throws for an 8-2 lead.
Alexis Carmosino finished the afternoon with 20 points. Her first three came on a three-point play with a free throw after a layup to trail 8-5 at 7:20.
The Tornados eventually stretched their lead to 16-7 at 5:15 before Quintana scored the next five with a triple and a layup to trail by four.
Cassie Hogan later stepped to the line at 1:34 and sank both free throws to trail by two.
CTX's lead bounced between two and four points the rest of the quarter and settled at 22-18 heading to the second.
Quintana opened the second quarter with a three-pointer to cut it to one before
Jocelyne Roque gave Sully their first lead of the game with a pair of free throws for a 23-22 advantage. Roque finished what was a 7-0 run to start the second with a jumper at 5:35 for a 25-22 lead.
Concordia ended the run with a triple to tie the game, but
Vania Hampton answered with a layup to go back ahead 27-25 at 4:21.
The Tornados retook the lead with the next six and finished the first half on a 9-4 run to lead 34-31 at the break.
CTX started the second half with a layup to lead by five but quickly saw that turn into a two-point deficit after a 7-0 answer from the Lobos.
Ashley Nunez started the run with two free throws before Quintana tied the game with another triple. Hampton then gave Sully a 38-36 lead with a layup at 6:28.
The Tornados retook the lead with a triple but again fell behind after a 9-0 run from Sully. Carmosino hit a jumper to get it started and was soon followed by yet another Quintana triple. She was fouled on the make and hit her free throw for a four-point play. Carmosino then found the bottom of the net from beyond the arc for a 47-39 lead with 2:26 left in the third.
Both sides traded points the remainder of the quarter as Sully took a 51-45 lead to the fourth.
CTX twice cut it to five but fell behind by 15 after
Kaylee Martinez, Carmosino and Quintana combined for a 10-0 run to lead 63-48 with 8:28 left.
Quintana was lethal from beyond the arc, hitting another triple after their 10-0 run was ended by a jumper to lead by a game-high 16 at 5:32.
The closest the Tornados came again was seven as the Lobos head to the conference tournament victorious with a 73-64 win.
Carmosino's 20 points came with a game-high 13 rebounds.
Sully finishes the season 9-13 and 7-5 in conference. Concordia's season ends at 2-8 and 2-8.
The Lobos now prepare for the conference tournament for the first time since the 2016-2017 season. They enter as the #3 seed and will play Howard Payne on Wednesday, March 10 in Brownwood.
