Lobos bested by Blazers in pair of home games #SRSU | #ASCsb | #d3sb

ALPINE, Texas - Softball remained competitive throughout but ultimately fell 6-3 and 6-1 Friday night to Belhaven at Lobo Field.

Game One: Blazers 6 - Lobos 3

Jodie Vaughn pitched a shutout top of the first before the Lobos got out to an early lead when Camryn Hardin and Veronica Rodriguez scored on errors. Nadia Valverde later scored on a wild pitch for a 3-0 lead.

Vaughn went back to the circle and put up another zero to keep it 3-0 going to the third.

The Blazers were able to tie things up with three in the top of the third for a 3-3 score that went to the sixth inning.

Belhaven added two more in the top of the sixth and one in the seventh for a 6-3 lead that went final.

Vaughn went the complete seven innings, striking out eight in the loss.

Veronica Rodriguez, Annika Canaba, and Samantha Chavez each stole a base.

Game Two: Blazers 6 - Lobos 1

The game was scoreless until Belhaven grabbed the lead with a run in the second and later extended it with five more in the third for a 6-0 advantage.

Hardin reached on an error in the bottom of the fifth before stealing second and moving to third on a throwing error to get in scoring position. Heather Rios then stepped in and grounded out to the pitcher to score Hardin to trail 6-1.

Danielle Gomez entered the game in relief of Miranda Martinez and pitched a one-hitter over the final four innings.

Belhaven's pitching was equally as formidable throughout the game and didn't let up another run in a 6-1 win over the Lobos.

In her great bullpen performance, Gomez allowed no runs, struck out three and walked one.

Sully proved quick on the base paths again with steals from Hardin, Rios, and Canaba.

The Lobos are 6-6 on the season and 6-4 in conference. Belhaven improves to 17-5 and 9-2.

Sully and Belhaven finish their three-game series tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. at Lobo Field.
