ALPINE, Texas - Men's hoops saw a seven-point lead evaporate over the last 3:21 of Saturday's contest against Concordia in a 69-63 home loss to the Tornados.
Concordia got out to a quick 4-0 lead before
Caelyb Kerley scored the next five on a triple and a layup for a 5-4 advantage just over two minutes in.
After a CTX triple put them ahead two,
Deveraux Minix tied things on a layup before Kerley followed with his own layup for a 9-7 score.
Concordia responded with a 9-0 run for a 16-9 lead with just over 12 minutes left in the first half.
The Lobos were able to trim the deficit to three after
Omar Boone connected on a jumper and then a layup for a 16-13 score.
CTX again used a run, this time 6-0, to take a 22-13 advantage with just over eight minutes left in the first half.
Offense for the Lobos came in bunches for players Saturday with
Jezreel Griffin scoring the next five on a layup and then a three-pointer to slim the Tornado lead to 22-18.
Concordia scored the next five to go ahead by nine with 4:20 left before the break.
Sully then went on a 7-0 run to get within two points at the 2:33 mark.
Trey Nelson started the streak with a pair of free throws before Minix sank a triple to cut it to four.
Julian Paredes then finished the run with a pair of free throws.
The Tornados put the final points on the board with a layup and the game went to the half with a 29-25 CTX lead.
Kerley got the offense going with a layup to start the second half to cut it to two.
Concordia was able to up their advantage to as many as seven early in the first half before the Lobos used a pair of Kerley jumpers and a Paredes layup for a quick 6-0 run to trail 38-37 with under 14 minutes left.
After CTX upped their lead to four,
Omar Boone sank a jumper before Kerley scored the next four on a free throw and then a three-pointer for a 43-41 score with just over 12 minutes left.
The Tornados quickly tied things on a layup, but Paredes and
Jace Perkins answered with a jumper and a layup for a 47-43 advantage.
Sully held the lead until Concordia tied things on a free throw at 9:05 and retook the lead on a triple for a 51-48 score with 8:46 remaining.
CTX then held the lead until Boone scored the next four for a 54-52 Sully advantage at 6:52.
Concordia again tied things at 5:15 on a pair of free throws but quickly saw that change after a Paredes triple at 4:19 made it 58-55 Lobos. That was the start of a 7-0 run that was finished by a pair of free throws from Perkins and then Paredes for a 62-55 advantage with 3:21 remaining.
The Tornados clamped down on defense in the final minutes, outscoring the Lobos 14-1 over the final 3:21, handing the Lobos a 69-63 loss.
Paredes and Kerley finished with a game-high 17 points. They both also had a team-high six rebounds, tied with Minix.
Sully falls to 7-8 on the season and 5-5 in ASC play. Concordia improves to 3-4 and 2-4.
The Lobos next prepare for Hardin-Simmons on Thursday, February 11 in Abilene.
