MARSHALL, Texas - Women's hoops trailed by one at the half but were bested in the second in a 59-41 loss to East Texas Baptist.
"We did a good job defensively tonight but had one quarter where we completely dropped the ball offensively," said head coach
Katie Novak. "We couldn't hit anything we got, and playing against a ranked team, we can't win if we can't put the ball in the basket. We need to bounce back this Saturday and finish strong heading into the break."
First Quarter
Vania Hampton scored the first four of the game with a pair of free throws and a layup to give the Lobos the lead out of the gate. After an ETBU jumper, Hampton and Carmosino hit back-to-back buckets for an 8-2 advantage. Sully held the lead until the final minutes with the Tigers retaking it twice and settling for a 13-12 advantage going to the second.
Second Quarter
ETBU upped their lead to eight with the first six of the quarter. The Lobos fought back and got it to two on three occasions. They eventually chipped it to one twice with a free throw from
Ashley Nunez and Kona Loftis to trail 27-26 at the break.
Third Quarter
The Tigers took command in the third quarter, outscoring the Lobos 13-1 to take a 40-27 lead to the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
Sully opened on a 5-2 run with an
Alexis Carmosino layup and
Kayla James triple to cut it to 42-32. The Lobos trimmed it to 10 once more with a
Teresa Quintana layup, but the Tigers scored 12 of the final 16 for the 59-41 win.
Stats
Nunez led the Lobos with 10 points and shot 5-of-6 from the free throw line.
Alyssa Ramlochan tied a game-high with nine rebounds and had two steals.
Sully falls to 6-5 and 2-4 in conference. ETBU stands at 8-2 and 4-1.
