Chandre Nunez looked to keep the Lady Lobos in tournament contention but fell short in her final collegiate game in an 84-66 loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor.
Nunez dropped a game-high 27 points and a tied team-high six rebounds.
Kaylee Martinez tied things early on a
jumper for a 2-2 score.
UMHB got out to a seven point lead on a 7-0 run for a 9-2 lead in the final few minutes of the first.
The Lady Lobos were able to shake off some early rust with an 8-0 run for their first lead of the game.
Chandre Nunez ended the Cru's run with a triple.
Kensi Parker soon sank a jumper before Nunez tied things up. She was fouled on the made layup
and hit the resulting free throw for a 10-9 lead.
UMHB made sure their lost lead wasn't for long as they finished the quarter on a 10-0 run for a 19-10 lead going to the second.
The Cru got out to a 13-point lead early in the second but saw that trimmed to seven on a 9-3 Sully run.
Ashley Nunez scored five during the streak for a 26-19 score.
UMHB answered with a 5-0 run and held a double-digit lead for the remainder of the first half to take a 43-29 lead to the break.
The Cru started the second half on a 5-0 run to lead by 22.
Chandre and
Maria Maldonado accounted for the next 10 points of the game to cut the deficit to 51-39 midway through the third.
UMHB's lead hovered between 13 and 15 the until a last second layup put the Cru ahead 64-47 heading to the fourth.
Chandre started the final quarter with a three-point play of a layup and free throw after the foul.
Ashley Nunez later hit a triple from beyond the arc to cut it to 64-53.
The Lady Lobos continued to battle, keeping it within 15 through most of the fourth.
Eventually the clock tipped to UMHB's favor as they ultimately prevailed in the 84-66 final.
Maldonado finished her freshman campaign with 13 points, six rebounds, and three assists.
Sully finishes the season 7-18 and 5-11 in ASC play. The Cru end with a record of 21-4 and 14-2.
Chandre Nunez was celebrated as the lone senior on the 2019-2020 squad. A 1,000-point collegiate scorer, she was named 2018-2019 ASC West Newcomer of the Year and is a two-time ASC West Player of the Week.
