ABILENE- The Sul Ross State University men's soccer team notched its very first victory with a 3-2 ASC win over host Hardin-Simmons in a Saturday night bout in Abilene.
The Cowboys opened the session as Kiko Redondo scored off an assist by Abate Hennessy at the 5:58 mark, first half.
Sul Ross tied the contest at the 32nd minute as
Luis Gonzalez banked from the top right side of the box.
Jose Luis Originales then dribbled a cross pass to
Eddie Rodriguez to knocked in the go ahead goal at the 34 minute.
Hardin-Simmons knotted the game seven minutes later as Asa Robicheaux scored off an assist by Brandon Sosa-Hernand.
In the second half, Gonzalez punched in the tie-breaking goal at 75:19 as Sully held on for the 3-2 win.
Sully finished the day with eight shots and put five on goal. The Cowboys posted 16 shots with seven on frame.
Goalkeeper
Frank Rodriguez secured five saves in Saturday's victory.
The Lobos improve to 1-4 on the season and 1-1 in ASC play. The Cowboys drop to 0-3-1 and 0-3-1.
Sul Ross will host East Texas Baptist University in the home opener September 27.
