BROWNWOOD- Sul Ross women's basketball pulled to within a one-point deficit midway into the third quarter but could not hold off a late-game surge by Howard Payne as the Lady Jackets defeated the Lady Lobos, 95-65 in Saturday afternoon conference play.
Erica Solomon- Powell collected 21 points in the effort while
Annie Lenoir and
Keilah Williams posted 16 points each.
Powell led rebounders with eight boards.
Sul Ross trailed by a point, 32-31 at the half.
A three-pointer by Lenoir with 8:09 left in the third quarter tied the game at 36.
Howard Payne broke out to three, nine-point leads and ended the third period leading 54-48.
The Lady Jackets climbed to a 23-point lead with five minutes remaining in the contest and never lost the momentum.
Sully drops to 6-15 on the season and 4-9 in ASC play. Howard Payne improves to 13-8 and 9-4.
The Lady Lobos will face Hardin-Simmons University in the fourth game of a five-game road stretch Thursday night.
Tip off is scheduled for 5:30.
