MARSHALL, Texas- An unanswered, 21-point barrage in the first quarter by East Texas Baptist led to a 60-14 ASC victory over visiting Sul Ross Saturday afternoon in Marshall.
The Tigers scored 20 more points in the second quarter while holding the Lobos to a touchdown and went to the half sitting with a comfortable 41-7 lead.
Williton Grear's two-yard touchdown run early in the second period capped a seven-play, 80-yard drive.
Julio Azua tacked on the extra point kick for a 21-7 East Texas Baptist lead.
The Tigers then put up a 20-0 attack to take their 41-7 lead into the break.
The home team extended its lead, 48-7 at the 10:28 mark of the third quarter.
Sul Ross answered three minutes later as
Paul Rodriguez connected with
Byron Jones for a 22-yard touchdown pass. Azua added the extra point as the Lobos trailed 48-14 with 7:03 left in the third quarter.
East Texas Baptist finished off the visitors with 12 unanswered points for the 60-14 victory.
The Lobos drop to 1-7 on the season and 1-6 in ASC play while the Tigers improve to 5-3 and 5-2.
Sul Ross will visit Texas Lutheran University next Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. conference kickoff.
