ALPINE, Texas-
Taylor Gass recorded her second consecutive double double as the Sul Ross Lady Lobos delivered an 84-57 conference pounding to visiting University of the Ozarks at the Gallego Center Thursday evening.
Gass polled 11 points and 13 rebounds in Thursday's win and posted a team-best five assist and five steals.
Junior guard
Angalyn Latin capped an 8-0 run with a three-point bucket giving Sul Ross a 13-4 lead with 6:29 left in the first quarter.
Another three-pointer by
Kiera Cosby at the 4:51 mark, started a 9-0 run ending with a triple by Gass at 1:20 and the home ahead 24-8.
The Eagles broke into double figure scoring as Kylie Devries converted a layup before Gass fired off another long range jumper at 17 seconds for a 27-10 Lady Lobo advantage heading to the second period.
Sully started the second quarter with a 5-0 run and soared to a 33-10 lead with 8:23 remaining before the half.
A fast break layup by
Erica Solomon- Powell at 4:30 gave Sul Ross its largest lead of 26.
The Lady Lobos ended the quarter with a free throw by Cosby and went to the break with a 50-26 lead.
Two more free throws by Cosby propelled Sully to a 30-point, 60-30 lead with 4:54 left in the third quarter.
Ozarks' Destinee Manning nailed two free throws at the 15 second mark and pulled the visitors to within 22, trailing 64-42 entering the closing period.
Sul Ross kept a tight grip in the fourth quarter allowing the Eagles to within 19.
The Lady Lobos put Ozarks away with a 5-0 run as
Jessy Stanley converted a free throw at 35 seconds for the 84-57 victory.
Sully was red hot from beyond the arc in the first have hitting 10-of-19 at 53 percent.
For the game, Powell led Sul Ross shooters with 17 points and was 4-of-5 from three-point range.
Lizette Heredia finished with 15 points while Latin tallied 11 points.
At 5-9 and 3-3 the Lady Lobos are currently riding a three-game winning streak heading into Saturday's ASC bout against U.T. Tyler.
Tip off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Gallego Center.
