Angalyn Latin scored a season-best 25 points and added 11 rebounds but Concordia University slipped past the Lady Lobos in a late-game, 68-57 victory Thursday evening in Austin.
Following a scoreless tie that lasted the first three minutes of the contest,
Lizette Heredia put the first point on the board with a free throw.
A three-pointer by
Annie Lenoir started a 6-0 Sul Ross run that ended with another triple by
Erica Solomon- Powell giving Sully a 12-4 lead with 3:08 left in the first quarter.
Latin connected on a midrange jumper for the final bucket of the period at 1:21 for a 14-8 Lady Lobo lead heading to the second quarter.
Kiera Cosby's three-pointer at the 7:13 mark started a 7-0 Lady Lobo run and was finished up with a
Jessy Stanley layup giving the visitors a 23-12 advantage.
The Tornados battled their way down to a three-point deficit before Sully ended the half with a 5-0 run and led 31-24 heading to the break.
Concordia regrouped late in the third quarter and tied the game at 38 with a Mercedes Ellison layup at 2:18.
The home team then took a brief lead before two free throws by Heredia at the 1:32 mark gave Sul Ross a 43-42 lead.
Latin fired off another three-pointer at 33 seconds giving the Lady Lobos a 46-42 lead heading to the fourth period.
Another three-point bucket by Powell 13 seconds into the the closing quarter put the Lady Lobos ahead, 49-42.
Turnovers spelled Sully's undoing down the stretch as Concordia attacked with a 13-0 run.
The Tornados never lost the momentum and went on to claim the 68-57 victory.
Powell posted 13 points in the effort while Heredia added three assists, three steals and a block.
The Lady Lobos fall to 6-13 on the season and 4-7 in ASC play. Concordia improves to 9-10 and 5-6.
Sul Ross will take on Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton Saturday. Tip off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
