BROWNWOOD- Capping its most successful season since 2003-04, the Sul Ross women's basketball team dropped a 72-61 decision to No. 1 seed U.T. Dallas in the first round of the ASC Women's Championship Tournament.
Sul Ross finishes the season at 10-16.
The Comets took command of the opening half although the Lady Lobos held the opposition to under a 10-point lead in the first quarter.
U.T. Dallas went on a 9-1 surge in the second period and led 34-17 with 4:09 remaining before intermission.
A 10-3 run by the Comets ended on a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Sully's
Katy Boren (Lubbock/Cooper) for a 44-22 UTD lead at the half.
The Lady Lobos could pull no closer than 11 in the third quarter and trailed 56-43 heading to the fourth.
Sul Ross fought its way down to a seven-point deficit with less than a minute left in regulation as
Ellyn Avery (Grady/GHS)
bingoed on a free throw.
U.T. Dallas wrapped up the outing with a 4-0 run to claim the 72-61 victory.

Kenya Miles (Tomball/Memorial) posted a double double 11 points and 11 boards.
