Final Statistics
SEGUIN-
Angalyn Latin (Houston/Jersey Village) scored a team-best 25 points but the Lady Lobos (0-1) were not able to overcome a cold shooting performance and dropped a 74-57 season-opening decision to Texas Lutheran (1-1) on Saturday.
Latin was just one rebound shy of reaching a double double and picked up six steals in the effort.
The Bulldogs came out with a 9-2 run and ended the opening quarter up 17-8.
Latin then posted an old-school, three-point play off a layup and added a free throw as Sul Ross broke into double digit scoring with 6:25 left in the second period.
Texas Lutheran mounted a 7-2 run to take a 30-13 advantage at the 2:00 mark.
A three-pointer by Sully's
Milan Barnes (Eastvale, CA/Eleanor Roosevelt) at 36 seconds would mark the final basket the Lady Lobos would score in the half as TLU went to the break ahead 39-18.
Sully was held to a pair of 16-point deficits late in the third quarter as TLU maintained the momentum in the closing period.
Jessy Stanley (Mt. Pleasant/Chapel Hill) and
Taylor Gass (Gail/Borden County) finished the day with nine and eight points respectively.
Jasmine Valdez (El Paso/Mt. View) led Sul Ross at the boards with 12 rebounds.
Sul Ross will face Schreiner University at 3:00 p.m. Sunday in Kerrville.
