HENSON MAKES SUL ROSS DEBUT

The Lady Lobos welcome first year head coach Caleb Henson to the program.

Henson was named  head women's basketball coach at Sul Ross State University in April, 2016.

Henson served as the top assistant women's basketball coach at NCAA Division II Lubbock Christian University the past 7 years, where he helped guide the Lady Chaps to a perfect 35-0 record and a national title in 2015-16. He has also served as an assistant coach at South Plains College.

Henson is a Ropesville, Texas native who attended Howard Payne University, South Plains College and Texas Tech University. He graduated from Texas Tech in 2008 with a B.S. in Exercise and Sport Sciences with a minor in English.

While attending Howard Payne, Henson played on the basketball team and was a manager. At South Plains College, he served as a manager for the Lady Texans who were ranked #1 in NJCAA for most of the season.  He also served as a manager/practice player for two years under Kristy Curry and her staff at Texas Tech their first 2 seasons in Lubbock.

During his collegiate academic career, Henson also coached over 25 different AAU/Little Dribblers/Church basketball teams and has assisted with multiple area camps and clinics as a way to give back to the game/community.

Henson returned to South Plains College as the top assistant coach on the women's basketball staff in 2008-2009 before joining the Lubbock Christian University women's basketball staff as a graduate assistant coach initially before receiving a promotion prior to the 2010/2011 season.

During his 7 year tenure at Lubbock Christian, Henson helped guide the Lady Chap program to 7 straight National Tournament appearances (3 straight Elite 8's & 1 Final 4 finish) and to a No. 1 NAIA ranking for most of the 2012-13 season. The next season Lubbock Christian finished 25-1 including a perfect 20-0 record in the team's first season as Heartland Conference members.

The Chaps then finished as Heartland Conference Co-Champions in 2014-15 and ranked 5/1800 in the nation at all levels in team GPA  3.71. This past season LCU ranked No. 1 in every major NCAA Division II poll as they went undefeated and won the 2015-2016 NCAA Division 2 National Championship. During his time coaching at Lubbock Christian, the team enjoyed wins at D1's University of Houston and Texas Tech and scheduled one of the biggest games in program history vs the University of Connecticut in 2015-2016.

Henson has never been a part of a losing season and been a part of 12 years of college women's basketball programs with a 77.9% winning %. Since serving in assistant coaching capacities, he has never had a team perform below a 3.42 team GPA for a season which consistently puts those teams in the WBCA Academic Top 25 Honor Roll. He has been honored to coach countless NJCAA/NAIA/NCAA All-American/All-Region/All-Conference Athletic & Academic award winners and enjoys maintaining relationships with his players after they graduate.
