ALPINE, Texas- Jonette Jackson (Killeen/Shoemaker) tallied a double double 21 points and 16 rebounds as the Lady Lobos dropped a 68-63 decision Saturday to West Division leader Howard Payne.

Shannon Villanueva (San Raman, CA/California) nailed down 14 points in the effort and finished at a perfect four for four from the free throw line.

The Yellow Jackets took advantage of their bench outscoring Sul Ross by a 49-7 margin.

HPU hit the first bucket following a nearly two-minute scoreless spell but Sully kept the outing close and trailed by one, 9-8, following a jump shot by Jackson with 2:53 remaining in the first quarter.

Howard Payne then spread the gap to a pair of 10-point leads and ended the period with a 20-10 advantage.

A fast break layup by Michah Cisneroz and a free throw by Jessica Leaks pushed the Yellow Jackets ahead, 29-13 with 5:46 left in the second quarter.

The Lady Lobos could pull no closer than 12 and went to the break behind 42-28.

Howard Payne put up two, 17-point leads in the third quarter and led 56-42 heading to the final period.

Following a 19-point lead by the opposition to begin the fourth, Sul Ross slowly narrowed their deficit down to seven off a three-pointer by Ashley Minjarez with just 11 seconds remaining in the game.

Minjarez hit another three-point jumper at three seconds to pull the Lady Lobos to within four, down 67-63 before a foul shot by HPU's Danyel Bradley sealed SRSU's fate for the 68-63 Yellow Jacket win.

Sul Ross drops to 4-16 on the season and 1-9 in ASC play while Howard Payne improves to 12-8 and 7-3.

The Lady Lobos will face Hardin-Simmons and McMurry on the road next Thursday and Saturday.
