PHOENIX, Ariz.- The Sul Ross women's basketball team dropped a 79-49 road contest to Arizona Christian University in the first round of the ACU Classic Friday in Phoenix.
The Lady Lobos shot below 30 percent converting just 15 of 56 from the field against the Firestorm.
Kenya Miles (Tomball/Memorial) finished with a team best 14 points for the night including a perfect four for four showing from the free throw line.
Miles was a rebound shy of reaching a double double with nine boards on the evening while Desare Allen (Midland/MHS) contributed seven rebounds.
Ashley Minjarez (El Paso/Irvin) tallied nine points in the effort.
Arizona Christian utilized a 10-0 run to take a 21-10 lead to intermission.
Most of the damage was done in points off turnovers as the Firestorm finished with a 32-11 margin over Sul Ross in turnover points.
Sully won the battle in points off the bench by a 25-17 margin.
Sul Ross drops to 1-3 on the season and will close out the ACU Classic against Northern New Mexico College Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Central.
